Air France – KLM Flying Blue Status Extensions In Select Markets Through December 31, 2022

0

Air France – KLM Flying has made a surprise move and continues status extensions in select markets through December 31, 2022.

Most hospitality sector companies have extended elite member tiers for the duration of the pandemic, but these practices have mostly ended.

You can access Flying Blue’s page for extensions here.

The latest status extension extends to the following markets:

  • Australia
  • China
  • Hong Kong,
  • Japan
  • Macao
  • New Zealand
  • Russia
  • Singapore
  • Taiwan
  • Ukraine

Flying Blue will credit eligible member accounts the number of XPs required to maintain their current status.

Examples From Flying Blue:

Will I keep my current level in my next qualification period?

In case your qualification period ends between now and 31 December 2022 (previously 30 September 2022), you will keep your current level even if you do not reach the XP objective.

For our Elite members with a qualification period ending between now and 31 December 2022 (previously 30 September 2022) and residential address in Australia, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Macao, New Zealand, Russia, Singapore, Taiwan or Ukraine:

  • We continue to maintain your status for another period
  • We continue to restore your surplus XP

Some examples:

A Silver member with a qualification period ending in December 2022:

  • If you have gained 120 XP, your counter will be offset by 100 XP to maintain Silver and you keep a surplus of 20 XP.
  • If you have gained 65 XP, we will credit the missing 35 XP and then offset your counter with 100 XP to reset your XP counter to 0 and maintain your Silver level.

Ø The surplus XP measure applies in addition to this measure. Please see the specific Q&A for more info.

A Gold member with a qualification period ending in December 2022:

A Platinum member with a qualification period ending in December 2022:

  • If you have gained 450 XP, your counter will be offset by 300 XP to maintain Platinum and you keep a surplus of 150 XP.

Ø The surplus XP measure applies in addition to this measure. Please see the specific Q&A for more info.

Conclusion

It does make sense for Flying Blue to extend member tiers in these markets due to the difficulty of traveling to and from them in the past 12 months.

Also, it wouldn’t surprise me if Flying Blue decided to further extend this practice to members with an address in mainland China.

What happens to my years counting towards Platinum for life?

If you keep your current level during your next qualification period based on our special measures, that membership year will count towards the 10 consecutive years needed to qualify for Platinum for life. For example:

  • You have been a Platinum member for 9 consecutive years, and your qualification period ended on 31 December 2021. Because of our measures, you have maintained and reached 10 consecutive years of Platinum. On 1 April 2022, we changed your level to Platinum for life.
  • You have been a Platinum member for 3 consecutive years, and your current qualification period will end on 31 December 2022. Because of our measures, you will be maintained. On 1 January 2023, your 4th consecutive year of Platinum will start.

What happens if my qualification period ends after 31 December 2022?
