Emirates has tweaked Skymiles tier and miles extension policies several times during the pandemic, and the most recent previous update was in early June (read more here).
Emirates has pushed out an updated miles expiry policy that considers members who live in countries with continued travel restrictions.

Previously (June 30):
If your Miles are expiring soon, we’ll support you with special offers so you don’t miss out on your rewards.
Review and update your email address on My Profile to ensure you hear from us 2 months before your Miles expire.
Now (July 1):
We will notify you by email two months ahead if you have Miles that are expiring soon and support you with special offers so you don’t miss out on your rewards.
You also have the option to extend the validity of your expiring Miles for another 12 months at a special rate.
There will also be special consideration for our members who live in countries with continued travel restrictions.
Keep your details and email address up to date on My Profile to ensure that you hear from us soon.
Conclusion
Emirates has added a blurb that there could be blanket extensions in markets where continued travel restrictions are in place (think of Greater China countries).
Skywards members with expiring miles will hear from Emirates within 2 months of expiry with their special extension offers.
