Emirates on Monday published a Travel Update that indicated that Heathrow airport would have banned all liquids on carry-on baggage, including those in transit (read more here).
This turned out to be false news, but I am still wondering where this information came from. Emirates first withdrew the guidance yesterday until publishing an update today.

Conclusion
There have been liquid and electronic bans at various airports over the years.
Forcing everyone to check in a bag at Heathrow would have brought the airport down due to an insufficient number of employees.
I am still baffled about where Emirates got its information for the Travel Updates section.
