“Enhanced” Cathay Membership Program Launch On August 17, 2022 (No Changes?)

Cathay Pacific teased about combining its Marco Polo and Asia Miles program in July 2021 (read more here and here) that was supposed to take place in the first half of 2022, which is now long gone.

The Cathay program launch is now taking place on August 17, 2022, but there don’t appear to be any changes to the program beyond the name change.

The announcement in 2021:

Cathay Pacific Combines Marco Polo Club & Asia Miles Under Cathay

Why launch an “enhanced” program if there are zero enhancements beyond a name change?

I would not call entry requirement to Hong Kong much eased if they still require three days of hotel quarantine followed by four days of self-monitoring with more than 10 covid-tests.

It seems that Cathay Pacific merely renames the Marco Polo Club as Cathay, as based on the T&Cs, you still collect Asia Miles.

What was this “enhancement” really about?
