IHG was teasing about an award sale last week (read more here) that is part of its Cyber Monday offers that went live this morning

It turns out that it is not an award sale but a 25% discount on the cash portion of the Points & Cash awards for stays January 1 – February 28, 2023, that are booked November 28 – December 2.

Things to note:

• IHG One Rewards doesn’t have REAL Points & Cash but merely sells you the points required for the full award and issues a regular award reservation
• You can cancel the reservation, and the FULL points will be refunded to your account. The purchase of points is NEVER reversed.
• These reservations are considered awards for promotion purposes. You won’t earn any bonus points, but you will earn elite qualifying nights, and they are eligible for stay benefits.

The price of a purchased point under this offer is more than what you can buy during the current sale. The price on the example above is 0.56 each when they are 10% less if you buy them.

These can make sense if you have reached the yearly maximum purchased points (currently 500,000 with the bonus) and need more.

This 25% discount is offered at time of booking and only applies to the cash cost of the booking. A member must be logged in to their IHG One Rewards account at the time of booking to access the discount. The cash portion of Points & Cash bookings are charged immediately in U.S. dollars. For cancellations, both the points and the cash components of the booking are refunded in points only. The number of points refunded is determined by the points-only price at the original time of booking.
