InterContinental Bangkok has approached guests with confirmed bookings that the hotel reopening due to extensive refurbishment is delayed, and the new scheduled opening is on April 1, 2023.
The hotel was set to close in mid-January 2022 but didn’t close until May. The hotel first closed bookings through August, then December 2022, and now until April 1, 2023.

Intercontinental Bangkok is temporarily closed for renovation until April 2023
Dear Mr. Royal Ambassador,
Warm greeting from InterContinental Bangkok and Thank you very much for choosing to stay with us.
To continue providing experiences that delight and inspire our guests, InterContinental Bangkok is undergoing renovations which will extend through until April 2023. We will return with a completely refreshed look and experience for all our guest rooms & suites, meeting venues, restaurant, bars and all public areas.
Due to this unforeseen extension, we are unable to accommodate your booking at InterContinental Bangkok. We would like to facilitate alternative accommodation at our sister hotels nearby, with the special rates listed.
The hotel offers discounted rates at several IHG hotels in the city. The only comparable to the InterContinental is the Kimpton.

There is a new InterContinental opening in Bangkok, supposedly on April 1, 2023.
The hotel is located in the Thong Lo area of Bangkok and is next to the Marriott Bangkok Sukhumvit 57 (I stayed at this hotel on its opening day).
Conclusion
It was inconceivable that they could have done the required updates to the InterContinental Bangkok in just over six months and this delay was much expected.
It would have been better had they started with a more realistic schedule because some with confirmed bookings need to relocate their stays, and prices likely are not the same.
Also, a note about the new InterContinental in the deep Sukhumvit area. I like the Thong Lo, but only when I don’t plan to travel to Silom due to the time it takes (I don’t like sitting in a traffic jam).
There are many good options close to the InterContinental, such as Renaissance, Grand Hyatt, Waldorf-Astoria, and St. Regis, all within walking distance.
Let’s hope that the renovations at the InterContinental Bangkok are not further delayed and the refresh brings the decor to the 2020s.
