Conclusion
I would not buy points or miles in any program just because they are on sale. However, I have and do buy them when they allow me to save significantly over buying or paying for premium hotel rooms or airline tickets.
I used to max both Marriott Rewards and SPG point purchases yearly, but there is minimal upside for buying Marriott Bonvoy points, especially when the program moves to more dynamically priced awards in 2023.
