A LoyaltyLobby reader sent us a question regarding the InterContinental Free Weekend Night Certificate (read more here) and the current Ambassador promotion for 20,000 bonus points for a two-night stay (read more here).
You can access IHG’s page for the Ambassador sign-up offer here.

Question From The Reader:
Hi, do you know whether IHG ambassador BOGO certificate will trigger the 20,000 bonus points offer for staying 2 nights? Thanks
InterContinental Free Weekend Night Certificate:
You can use the link on the piece to check the Free Weekend Night Cert-rates and even book one before you sign up. Just make sure that you sign up at least a week before so that your purchase is processed and the certificate deposited into your account before the stay begins.
Ambassador Sign Up Promotion:
IHG Rewards members can now earn both the sign-up/renewal bonus + an additional bonus of 20,000 points after two nights’ stay. This effectively makes the sign-up free if you value IHG Rewards points roughly at half of a cent each.
My Two Night Stay:
I had a two-night stay at the InterContinental Barcelona (a reflagged Crowne Plaza), and the free weekend night cert stay triggered the bonus.
Back to the reader’s question. Yes. The two-night stay, which you have applied the Ambassador certificate, should post such, and if it doesn’t, contact the Ambassador contact center and ask them to fix it.
I renewed the Ambassador membership, as I tend to stay at an InterContinental every once in a while. However, the program is the best fit for someone who doesn’t have top-tier status with Hilton, Hyatt, or Marriott.
Ambassador program guarantees (watered down) a one-category upgrade from the booked room type and 4 PM check out.
Sometimes you have to remind the hotel what the guaranteed upgrade is, like what was the case with this reflagged Crowne Plaza, now InterContinental, in Barcelona.
