Review: Hyatt Place Kyoto – LoyaltyLobby

Hyatt opened its third property this past spring in Kyoto when Hyatt Place came online. The city also has the well-established Hyatt Regency and the newer Park Hyatt Kyoto.

It was interesting to see how this 239-room select service Hyatt Place had modified its hard and soft products for the Japanese market.

The location always comes up when someone considers where to stay in Kyoto. I would say that it doesn’t really matter because the sights are everywhere, regardless of where you stay.

The hotel is on a busy street, and there is a direct underground connection from right outside the hotel for easy access.

I don’t usually go to breakfast at select service hotels, but I wanted to look at how they handle it at this Hyatt Place, and I was positively surprised.

Fitness Center

Relatively small, considering the size of the hotel. I guess they don’t expect many guests to use it, but I did.

Laundry Room

I was surprised they had washer/dryer combos available, and I utilized one for a load. The unit comes with detergent and dries the laundry. I paid 600 yen ($4).

One Bedroom Suite 417

The suite was quite ok, and I could use the dining table for typing with my laptop. I first had an issue with the AC unit in the living room, but it eventually worked.

Room Types

Hyatt Place is not my favorite Hyatt brand, and my two most recent stays have been in Bangkok and Los Cabos. However, I was positively surprised about this Kyoto hotel, and I wouldn’t mind staying again.

The check-in agent told me that they don’t usually upgrade to one-bedroom suites, but I had been assigned one nonetheless.

The breakfast was very good for a select-service hotel and included smoked salmon, among other things.

The employees have not been exposed enough to foreign guests yet and, as a result, struggled to communicate in English, but we managed.

Overall, excellent value for the price I paid.
