SunExpress Becomes Air Canada Aeroplan Redemption Partner On November 8, 2022

0

Air Canada today announced another airline that will become Aeroplan’s partner on November 8, 2022.

SunExpress, a joint venture between Lufthansa and Turkish Airways, flights will be available using Aeroplan miles, and you can mix and match them with other partner airlines. However, the airline won’t become a partner for earning purposes.

You can access Air Canada Aeroplan here and SunExpress here.

Note from Aeroplan:

  • Members will be able to book SunExpress flights online at aircanada.com, through the Air Canada mobile app, or via Aeroplan’s contact centre
  • Redemptions flights will be priced based on Aeroplan’s pricing for partner airlines and will be combinable with our other airline partners
  • SunExpress flights are eligible for redemption in Economy class as SunExpress operates an all-economy fleet
  • The partner booking fee will apply for flight rewards which include travel on SunExpress

Conclusion

SunExpress used to operate flights with a German-based subsidiary and under the Eurowings brand on behalf of Lufthansa. The German operations were liquidated in 2020.

Interestingly, the airline is owned by Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines, two Star Alliance alliance members that don’t always appear to be on the best terms with each other. I guess that it has not visibly affected SunExpress.

The primary purpose of SunExpress is to shuttle passengers from Europe to leisure destinations around Turkey.

It is an interesting choice for an airline partner for Air Canada, and another partner is about to be announced next week.
