A nice surprise reached select World of Hyatt Globalists today as the program nominated some of their high-value members to the very exclusive, invite-only MGM Rewards NOIR tier.
I have received such a nomination myself by email, likely unbeknown to Hyatt that I’m already MGM NOIR so this is something that won’t do me any good and should have been given to someone else.
This is the email I received from Hyatt Consumer Affairs this morning (Singapore Time):

This would be very nice if I hadn’t had NOIR status for close to ten years already. Hyatt apparently doesn’t know about it so they just sent this to random Globalist accounts. How they target this is anyone’s guess. I just hope that I didn’t take up a spot that another member could have actually used.
I have only 35 nights ytd, with 20 of those actually coming from stays at MGM properties in Las Vegas. Maybe having a solid stay credit history with MGM hotels on the Hyatt account is one of the factors because it certainly isn’t my overall spend or elite night activity.
MGM NOIR status comes with complimentary airport limousine transfers, upgrades at casino hotels, and line privileges as well as a bonus points accelerator feature for machine play.
The status is highly coveted among those in the gaming scene and since its invite-only members can’t obtain this status level by simply racking up points which is the normal way for their status levels up to Platinum.
MGM Rewards (formerly MLife) has several tiers in their player’s club and to obtain NOIR one has to be invited by MGM and there is no definitive threshold for a specific amount of points that have to be reached. One can literally spend hundreds of thousands in bets and still be stuck at the Platinum level as MGM simply won’t invite the member to NOIR. Never chase something that’s invite-only, it’s extremely frustrating if you don’t end up getting it!
However, status alone isn’t going to give a lot of benefits apart from the minimum guaranteed ones. Comp items and knockout room upgrades are reserved for active gamblers. In my one decade as face-only NOIR with no considerable gaming activity to back it up, I’ve gotten maybe TWO great suites. The rest of the time I could be happy if I received anything other than a standard room. The benefits I most appreciated were Limousines, VIP Lounges and Line Passes. I also got some free entries to clubs and events in Vegas.
The new dining credits and complimentary cruises are for “qualifying members” only so that means members who achieved their tier level through play, not status matches.
At least for the cruises, MGM apparently now provides a list to their partners Celebrity and Royal Caribbean and you can’t book your free cruise if you ain’t on the list. But over the years I learned that RCCL/CCL is such an operational mess, you can try a few times (especially during busy days) and find someone who will do it anyway as long as you’re an active Noir member.
The program has just been revamped and the name was changed to MGM Rewards:

Resort fees are now waived for Gold, Platinum, and Noir members and that is huge. These scam fees have now reached prices of almost $50 including tax. Them being eliminated makes staying in Las Vegas an excellent opportunity to earn Hyatt status as well. Under the rules of MGM Rewards, members have to book direct with MGM in order to be eligible for the waiver.

In 2013 there was also an exclusive kick-off event for the Hyatt / MLife partnership in Las Vegas and I’ve been fortunate enough to have been targeted to attend it. The event was limited to 100 participants and those also received MLife Noir Status as an extra present.
Strangely enough, my account has maintained the NOIR every single year ever since even though I’m not a big gambler. In fact, I rarely gamble at all and just like to stay in Las Vegas at the MGM hotels with the added benefit of free limousines to/from the airport.
Conclusion
Hyatt has had another go at nominating some of their members to the elusive MGM NOIR Status and those members who received the communication should see their status updated automatically.
I’d assume that receiving this nomination email relies on many factors such as being already linked with MGM and also having a stay history with that that makes it worthwhile for Hyatt/MGM to identify a member for NOIR status. Why I received this, I have absolutely no idea. My account has been NOIR for almost ten years now so the link is obviously not transmitting existing tier levels to Hyatt.
I don’t believe these emails are being sent out in batches. Those members eligible would have already received the email by now.
