Ireland has decided to drop all Covid-19 travel restrictions on Sunday (March 6, 2022). There is no requirement to be vaccinated, proof of recovery, or to have PCR-RT or antigen tests.
Ireland’s health minister has stated that this is to help Ukrainians and people from neighboring countries to flee. Ireland has had various testing and quarantine restrictions in place from January 2021.
Here’s a travel update from Aer Lingus:
Effective 00:01 Sunday 06 March 2022, all passengers arriving into Ireland will no longer have to present COVID-19 travel documents.
This means that there is no longer a requirement for passengers to have:
- a completed passenger locator form;
- evidence of having been fully vaccinated;
- evidence of recovery from COVID-19; or
- evidence of a negative/not-detected result from a RT-PCR/Antigen test.
Conclusion
Many often forget that while Ireland is part of the European Union, unlike its neighbor (UK), it is not in Schengen but has a Common Travel Area agreement in place with the UK.
It is good to see Ireland drop testing and other requirements. It would be wise for everyone to be vaccinated against Covid-19, however.
