Singapore & Indonesia (Batam & Bintan) Sea Bubble Begins On February 25, 2022

Singapore has today opened applications for the Vaccinated Travel Pass (VTP) between Singapore and Indonesia’s ports of Batam and Bintan.

Indonesia has already allowed visitors from Singapore to enter quarantine free for these two ports, and the expansion of Singapore VTL allows bidirectional travel.

You can access Singapore’s page for Safetravel here.

There is a weekly cap of just 350 passengers from each of the two ports allowed to enter Singapore. They also need to be on specific ferries that only carry passengers entering Singapore quarantine-free. Passengers must apply for a Vaccinated Travel Pass (VTP) if they are not Singaporean or city residents.

The requirements to enter through ferries are the same as on-air:

  • Must be fully vaccinated and carry acceptable proof
  • Negative test performed not more than 48 hours before departure + second test within 24 hours of arrival to Singapore
  • Arrive on specific designated VTL ferry services

Conclusion

I have never taken a ferry from or to Singapore, but I have traveled to Singapore once on a bus from Kuala Lumpur. I have considered taking it to Indonesia, but in the end, I have always flown to Jakarta or Bali.

This ferry option to Indonesia opens up opportunities for Singaporeans to have some R&R at a more reasonable price. However, there appear to be severe limitations on what you can do in Indonesia if doing a bubble arrival.
